George James Deal

George James Deal, age 86, died May 15, 2007 in La Grande. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Deal was born on January 27, 1921, the son of George W. and Blanche (McCarger) Deal in Rainer, Oregon. He graduated from Rainer High School and served with the United States Army during World War II. On May 11, 1944 he married Ruth Holcom. He worked as a pipefitter and they lived in various places in the Northwest, including Pasco, Moses Lake, Imbler and Baker City. He enjoyed his family and reading.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Deal of North Powder; children and their spouses, Tom and Diane Deal of Elgin, Nicki and Gene Hiner of North Powder, John Deal of Cove and Jim and Trilla Deal of Imbler; brother and his wife, Eddie and Jeannie Deal of Kennewick; sister and her husband, Dorothy and Bill Gallaher of Keizer; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions may be made to the Union County Veteran's office in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon 97850.
