Mrs. Turner was born in the small farming community of Summerville, Oregon on January 10, 1915, the daughter of Thelbert and Mattie (Hallgarth) Choate. She met her husband, Robert E. Turner, while working as a beautician in La Grande and they were married on August 7, 1938. The town of them moved around for a few years, following Bob's work as a manager with Montgomery Ward. When Bob joined the Army during World War II she returned to La Grande to be near her family. After the war the couple established Genevieve's Children's Shop, a landmark children's clothing store in La Grande, which they operated together for over 35 years. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary and attended the Presbyterian Church. After retiring in 1982 they continued to live in La Grande and did some well-earned traveling together. After the death of her husband in 2002, she moved to Beaverton to live with her son.
