Genevieve A. McGhee, 84, of Milton-Freewater and formerly of La Grande died February 27, 2006 at. St. Mary Medical Center. The funeral will begin at 11am Friday at Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main Street, Milton-Freewater, Oregon with Pastor J.J. Dygert of Christ The King Lutheran Church officiating. Burial at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery will be private.
Mrs. McGhee was born November 5, 1921 to Harry M. and Hazel M. Cook Weis in Enterprise. The family lived at a logging camp called Maxville before moving to La Grande where she attended grade school and the first two years of high school. She graduated from Grant High School as valedictorian. The University of Portland College of Nursing accepted her for admission as a freshman at the age of 15.
On January 5, 1942, she married Kenneth E. McGhee in Boise. She worked as an industrial nurse for the Edward Hines Lumber Company and retired in 1979. Her husband died in 1990. She was a member of the Lutheran Church and a life member of the Integrity Rebekah Lodge and the Loyalty Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include children and their spouses, Michael McGhee of Cloverdale, California, Patrick McGhee of Corvallis and Army Lt. Col. (Ret,) John and Beate McGhee of Reno, Nevada.
Memorials may be made to Christ The King Lutheran Church or to the National Arthritis Foundation.
