Genevie B. (Long) Wells, age 87, of Elgin, passed away April 17, 2012 at Post Acute Rehab in La Grande. The family will greet those who wish to attend a viewing on Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Harvester's Church of the Nazarene in Elgin. Committal and interment will follow at the Elgin Cemetery.
Gen was born on October 27, 1924 in Elgin to Carl and Rula (Stowe) Long. She was raised on the family farm and attended a one room school across the road from the farm on Cricket Flat. After the closure of rural schools she went to school in Elgin and graduated from Elgin High School.
In 1946 Gen was the Queen of the first Elgin Stampede. Then in 1947 she married Waide Wells and they began their life together. Gen had many talents and hobbies including playing guitar and singing, Tole painting, sewing, gardening and most important - hunting and fishing! (She was an excellent Marksman and was labeled by some as a modern "Annie Oakley".)
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Dick Becker; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark and Angi Wells; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Waide, on December 17, 2011, along with many extended family members and several friends.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice in care of Daniels~Knopp, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.
