Gene W. Hedrick, age 55, of Cove, died September 1, 2003 after an auto accident near Cove. A celebration of life will begin at 3 pm Friday at Loveland Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Hedrick was born October 13, 1947, to George W. and Ann Ustic Hedrick in Hillsboro. He graduated from high school in Seattle and worked for Boeing Aircraft before attending the University of Washington. He worked as a drug and alcohol social worker and married Diane Pelt on September 26, 1977 in Winnemucca, Nevada. The couple moved to Haines where he worked as a firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service and the BLM. He graduated from Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario in 1983 with a degree in engineering. The family moved to Hermiston in 1985 where he began working as an engineer for the Oregon Department of Transportation. They moved to Cove in 1990.

He was a member of the Association of Engineering Employees and enjoyed fishing, shooting, sailing and camping. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife of Cove; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Marlee Hedrick of Spanaway, Washington; two grandchildren; and a sister, Georgann Gulley of Beaverton. His parents died earlier.

Memorial may be made to the Oregon Food Bank or the Portland Rescue Mission.
