Gene Otho Duncan

August 25, 1928 — April 24, 2003

Gene Otho Duncan, age 74, of Cove, passed away on April 24th at the Grande Ronde Hospital.

A celebration of life will be held at the Cove United Methodist Church on Monday, April 28th at 2:00 p.m. with The Rev. Jerry Peters officiating. Committal and interment will follow at the Union Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Gene was born on August 25, 1928 at Corning, Iowa, Adams, County, to Lawrence A. Duncan and Beulah Pearl Williams Duncan. Gene left Iowa in 1948 to go to work at Crown Zellerback Paper Company in Oregon City, where he worked for 20 years. He served in Korea from 1954-1955 as a Squad Leader on a half-track. On June 4, 1971 he moved to Union to work for the Boise Cascade Particle Board Plant. He retired in October of 1987 on a disability.

Gene married Esther Donna Lou Haugerud on November 9, 1956 in Seattle, Washington. She preceded him in death on July 6, 1986.
Gene is survived by his companion and best friend, Sharlene Gray of Cove; children, Judy and Bob Beyers of Salem, Shirley Inman of Portland, Dona Jean Duncan of La Grande, Diane Duncan and her companion, Scott Gover of La Grande, Larry Duncan and his wife, Deb of Union and Tom Duncan of La Grande; grandchildren, Tammy, Michael, Sadie, Seana, Justin, Ty and Tristin; two great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Those who wish may make contributions in Gene's memory to the Union County Home Health/Hospice or the Cove United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
