Gale "Jean" Standley

Gale "Jean" Standley, age 89, of La Grande, died Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at her home. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Standley was born on November 18, 1917, the daughter of Robert Gale and Edna (Wissler) Sturdivant in La Grande. She graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1934 and attended Eastern Oregon Normal School, University of Oregon and Northwestern Business College. On December 4, 1938 she married J. Dale Standley in La Grande. Their family farm has been designated as a "Century Farm" in Oregon.

Mrs. Standley was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church. She also held memberships in Hope Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Union County Nile Club, La Grande Country Club and the Rusty Wheels Car Club. She enjoyed her family and home as well as golfing, playing bridge and pinochle and sewing and knitting.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, David and Carol Standley of Corvallis, James and Sally Standley of La Grande and Linda and John Gothie of Aloha; six grandchildren, Aaron Christopher Standley, Jeffrey Allen Standley, Dana Marie Standley, Melissa Ann Standley, James Dale Standley III and Shaun Hoyt; four great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Her husband preceded her in death as well as a daughter, Mary Lou Standley.
