Gail P. Wittmeyer, age 92, of La Grande, died August 7, 2014 at her home. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Island City Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.
Gail was born on April 24, 1922, the daughter of Glen and Ellen (Jones) Polly in Wray, Colorado. When she was in high school the family moved to Oregon. She graduated from high school in Woodburn. On November 1, 1941 she married James Henry Wittmeyer and they lived in various places including Crescent City, California, Pendleton, Huntington, Newport and then La Grande. She enjoyed quilting, painting, drawing, going to church, reading and traveling. She belonged to the Gem and Mineral Club.
Survivors include her daughter & son-in-law, Charlene and Duane Kenwood of Hawaii; daughter, Jean Mallory of Troy; five grandchildren, David Benm and Rick Beem of California, Doug Mallory of Troy, Robert and Daphne Mallory of Twim Falls, Idaho and Marci Mallory of Bakersfield, California; seven great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Wittmeyer in 1971, husband, James Wittmeyer in 2005, son-in-law, Douglas Mallory in 2007 and one grandson.
