G. Berniece "Bee" Coalwell

August 12, 1918 — January 25, 2003

G. Berniece "Bee" Coalwell, age 84, of La Grande, died January 25, 2003 at the AmeriCare home after a brief illness.


A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 29, 2003 at the Summerville Cemetery. Bee's oldest son, Bernell Coalwell will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.


Bee Coalwell was born on August 12, 1918, in Caldwell, Idaho to Gus and Myrtle Fowler. She graduated from La Grande High School in 1938. She worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" in the Portland shipyards during World War II and was a nurse's aid for many years. She was also a wonderful singer, artist, author and poet.


Survivors include her children, Bernell Coalwell of Springfield, Oregon, Dennis Coalwell of Seattle and Manchal Curry of Gilbert, Arizona. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Danielle and Heath; six great grandchildren, Katrina, Kevin, Ayla, Skylar, Jacob and Heath, Jr.; sister, Gusta Hall of Perry, Oregon; and other relatives and friends. Four brothers and four sisters died earlier.


Flowers may be delivered to Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon 97850.
