Frederick Arthur Ott, 75, of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and formerly of Island City, died April 22 at home of natural causes. At his request there will be no services. A family gathering is planned for later in the summer.
Fred was born Dec. 15, 1933, to Laura (Smith) and Fritz Ott at the Smith farm on Pumpkin Ridge. He was born in the same house his mother was born in.
He entered the Navy at the age of 17, serving on the USS Bremerton during the Korean War. Upon discharge at the rank of Quarter Master 3rd Class, he embarked on a career in sales including alarm systems and insurance. A former Toastmaster, Fred often entertained his friends with humorous lyrics and poetry.
On the golf course, he was always up for a challenge, and all who knew him well avoided any bets on the putting green.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy; children, Gail and her husband, Rob Dehann, Dana Ott, David Ott and Jennifer Ott; siblings, Connie Abell of Island City, Deanna Boschee of Oceanside, Calif., and Mel and his wife, Diantha Ott of Spokane; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
