Floye LaRhue was born on January 7, 1932 in Tipton, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charlie D. “Daddy Chalk” and Lola L. “Dodi” (Crites) Coffer. Floye was raised and educated in Carpinteria, California where she graduated from high school in 1949 at the age of 17. She attended the University of California Santa Barbara; she then went on to receive her cosmetology license in Santa Barbara and opened her own beauty shop in Carpinteria at age 19. She was proud of her first car which she ordered, a Sungate Ivory Chevy convertible with white wall tires and tuck and roll leather interior. She met Dale Pierson at a dance in Ventura, fell in love and later married on February 4, 1953 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were married 52 years until his death in 2005. Floye continued her career as a beautician while following her husband’s Naval career coast to coast. Their 4 children were born during their life travels. Kirk and Brent in Santa Barbara, California, Nikki in Patuxent River, Maryland and Tricia in Long Beach, California. In 1974 Dale retired from the Navy and they moved their family from New Jersey to Dale’s hometown of La Grande. While in La Grande, Floye worked as a clerk at Glass Drugstore and J.C. Penney’s department store, making many friends along the way!
Floye enjoyed bowling and played softball into her 50s. She was always surrounded by her family on their many camping, fishing, 4 wheeling and holiday get togethers! Her greatest joy was always sharing her life with her friends, family and her loved, spoiled dogs.
Her family includes her children, Kirk (Jean) Pierson) of Pendleton, Brent (Cindy) Pierson of Florida, Nikki Carlson (Dan Keller) of La Grande, Tricia Anson of Colorado; Grandchildren; Jennifer, Skyler, Calen McKayla, Jaelee, Kennedy, Noah, Jacob, Jason, Dusty, Jesse, Tailee, Haaven, Shilo, Montana, Danielle, and Andreea, and many great, and great-great grandchildren, each of whom have a special place in her heart. She also leaves a sister, Geraldine Doell of California, who she has loved dearly her entire life, close brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gary (Lynn) Pierson, Leora (Kent) Houston and many other special relatives and friends.
Her husband, Dale, died in 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents, “Daddy Chalk” and “Dodi”, a sister, Helen Hasselschwert, brother, James Coffer, son-in-law, Bruce Anson and two grandchildren, Clint Pierson and Sierra Carlson
We will always remember her infectious laugh, blue twinkling eyes, kindness, generosity, grace, strength and most importantly her unconditional love.
