Florence E. Workman

Florence E. Read-Workman, 93, longtime resident of

La Grande, died Sept. 1. A celebration of life will begin at

1 p.m. Sept. 25 on her lawn at 707 Fourth St. in La Grande.

Florence was born Feb. 11, 1917, one of eight children to James A. Read and Lulu Belle Read in Evans. She attended Eastern Oregon Normal School and taught in a one-room school house in the little town of Trout Creek.

She married Kenneth W. Workman and had four daughters. She was well known as a cook and worked in the public schools, the senior center and the Hilgard Work Center for boys. She also worked at the Terry Trailer factory.

She was active in the Rebecca Lodge and also the Emblem Club.

She is survived by a sister, Ruth Lammert of La Grande; daughters, Sarah King of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Betty Wiseman of La Grande and Susan King of Valley View, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3101 Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland 97239-3009.
