Florence "Flo" Sims Otten Davidson

Florence Sims Otten Davidson, 86, of La Grande, died in the late afternoon March 22.

A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at St Peter's Episcopal Church, corner of Fourth Street and O Avenue in La Grande.

Florence was born Dec. 23, 1922, to Clifford Marlowe and Marie Jeannette (Hager) Sims in Salem. After graduation from McLoughlin High School in Milton-Freewater in 1940, she attended and graduated from Oregon State College in 1946. She then lived in Pendleton and worked as an executive secretary for the Kerns Co. of Pilot Rock until 1951, at which time she married Dr. Frederick Ross Otten. He was killed in a tractor accident in 1962.

Florence then attended Eastern Oregon College where she completed her certification for teaching. She taught business law and accounting at La Grande High School for 10 years. During that time she completed her master's degree in education at Eastern Oregon College.

In 1976, she married J. Raymond Davidson. They both enjoyed traveling to many foreign countries.

She was a member and past-president of P.E.O. Chapter DK; served as a campaign chairman and president of United Way during the 1970s; was trustee of DeWuhs Keckritz Educational Foundation; trustee of Eastern Oregon University Foundation; and was an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Florence enjoyed china painting, reading, knitting and other hand crafts.

She is survived by her children, Attellia "Tia" Otten of Playa del Rey, Calif., Frederick "Rick" Otten of Ontario, Elece Otten Leverone and her husband, Dr. Thomas Leverone, of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Gail Davidson Fineberg and her husband, Todd Fineberg, of Boonsboro, Md.; and sisters, M. Jeannette Baum of La Grande and Marjorie Mims and her husband, Dr. Matlock Mims, of Pacific Palisades, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; daughter, Kristine Alexis Otten; and brother, Alexander "Zan" Sims.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Memorial Fund, to P.E.O. Chapter DK or any other charity.
