Fleta Laura Anderson McCoy, age 86 of La Grande, died Saturday, October 8, 2005. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in La Grande. Interment will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2005 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande.
Fleta Laura Anderson McCoy was born on January 6, 1919, the third child of James and Iva (Cook) Anderson in Harlan, Kansas. She attended Harlan Schools and graduated from Harlan High School in 1936. Fleta attended Fort Hayes State College in Hays, Kansas. She taught in various schools in Smith County, Kansas. In 1941, she moved to La Grande and on September 6, 1941 she married Fred McCoy in Pocatello, Idaho. Together the couple raised a son Tim McCoy. Fleta was a homemaker for many years and in 1986 she began working at the U.S. Forest Service and continued with the Senior Program until ill health prevented her from continuing this past summer. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed gardening, church activities, arts and crafts and was involved in the reading programs in local schools. Fleta will always be remembered as a person who "everyone loved."
Survivors include her son, Tim and his wife Gloria McCoy of Coos Bay, Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Her parents, husband Fred McCoy, brothers Raymond Anderson, Bud Anderson and sisters, Creta Anderson Grimm and Arlene Anderson all preceded her in death.
