Fern Augusta (Wood) Nickel

Fern Augusta (Wood) Nickel, 95, of La Grande, died peacefully Oct. 3 of natural causes at TJ's Adult Foster Care.

No local services will be held. A graveside service will be at Crystal Springs Cemetery in Camino, Calif.

Fern was born June 29, 1913, in Hutchinson, Kan. Her journey in life took her to Lincoln, Neb., to six decades in Southern and Northern California and finally to La Grande. In the 1920s her mother's family, Decious, were residents in La Grande and Island City. Her cousin took ownership of the Sommer and Savoy Hotels.

Survivors include her children, Ethelma Tresenriter of Shingle Springs, Calif., Henry L. Nickel of Golden Valley, Ariz., Mark Nickel of Sutter Creek, Calif., and Judith Sather of Post Falls, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother; infant daughter, and her husband, Henry A. Nickel
