FANNIE MELISSA KNIGHT


Fannie Melissa Knight, age 93, of La Grande and formerly of Wallowa County, died Friday, November 29, 2002 at a local care facility.


Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Summerville Cemetery with The Rev. Norman Shrumm of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.


Mrs. Knight was born on December 11, 1908, the daughter of William and Lula (Smart) Winkles in Eufaula, Oklahoma. The family later moved to Wallowa County and in 1944 she moved to La Grande. On June 15, 1947 she married Ray Knight in Astoria, Oregon. She worked as a cook in Hoke Hall until illness forced her retirement. Mr. Knight preceded her in death on January 6, 1988.


Mrs. Knight was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in La Grande. She enjoyed horses and sewing.


Survivors include her son, Bill Carter of Wallowa; daughter, Lucille Highland of Tacoma, Washington; Foster sons, Jerry Page of Medford and Tim Page of Billings, Montana; six grandchildren; two foster grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by brothers, Allen, Andy and Neal and sisters, Alice, Amanda, Pearl and Ada.
