Evert Teeples Higley, age 91, of Union, died July 3, 2004 at his home. The funeral will begin at 2 pm Friday at the LDS Church in Fruitland, Idaho. Haren-Wood Chapel of the Roses in Payette is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Higley was born November 12, 1912 to Elihu Cheney and Mary Joanna Teeples Higley at Upper Presto, Idaho. He graduated from high school at the Intermountain Institute at Weiser, Idaho. He enjoyed football, basketball, baseball and track.
He graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago and married Emma Louise Moore on March 11, 1937 at Payette. The family lived and farmed in various places in Idaho and in Hood River, then lived on a farm between New Plymouth and Fruitland for 50 years. He worked for Marshal Fixtures in Payette, Ontario Millworks and Boise Cascade, where he worked for 27 years until his retirement in 1977. He served as president of Local 2816 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America at least twice, and was president of the Payette County Democratic Party.
The family joined the LDS church in 1951 and in June 1952 they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. He taught a primary class for 10 years, was secretary of the Young Men's organization and a home teacher.
Survivors include his wife of Union; children and their spouses, Mary and Jeron Jackson of Union, Barbara and Duane Ireland of Bullhead City, Arizona, Dean and Priscilla Higley of Hayden, Idaho, Wayne Higley of Fruitland, Idaho, Delbert and Sandy Higley of Payette, Idaho and Gene and Teresa Higley of Elgin; 17 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren. A son, David, a grandson, Michael Higley, a great granddaughter and a sister died earlier.
Memorials may be made to the Intermountain Institute in care of Chapel of the Roses, 840 Sixth Avenue S, Payette, Idaho 83661.
