Evelyn Mae Pollard

March 24, 1932 — June 4, 2015

Evelyn Mae Pollard died Thursday, June 4 at her home in La Grande at the age of 83.

A graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, June 12th at the Summerville Cemetery with Pastor Franklin Humber of the Summerville Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels-Knopp Funeral Center.

Evelyn was born on March 24, 1932 in Willow Springs, Missouri, the first of six children to Joe L. and Vinnie (Collins) Scott. The family moved to Imbler when she was five years old and she remained a resident of the Grande Ronde Valley for the rest of her life. She graduated from Imbler High School. In 1953 she married Claire German in Winnemucca, Nevada. They had a daughter, Twila. Claire preceded her in death . On October 17, 1984 Evelyn married Charles Pollard in Haines. He preceded her in death in 2009.

Evelyn moved to La Grande and operated Goldendale Inn, an adult foster care home in Island City and La Grande, for 25 years. While trying to retire in 1995 she was called to reopen it several times at the request of families for their loved ones.

Evelyn attended the Baptist Church and she loved reading the Bible. She enjoyed gardening, especially her iris and vegetable gardens, outdoors and she loved listening to music. She loved cooking, and was especially known her hot rolls. She loved the outdoors and fishing. She was also very artistic, especially oil painting.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Twila and Kam Ziaee of La Grande; siblings, Joe Lee Scott of La Grande and Mike Scott, of Summerville, Louise Houtz of Baker City, and Joyce Campbell of Summerville; two grandchildren, Melanie Montgomery-McCarley of Dallas, OR and Jason Montgomery of Roseburg; four great-grandchildren, Daniel, Morgan and Patrick McCarley and Grace Montgomery; nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. She loved all of her family with all of her heart. She absolutely adored and doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. But her first love was her Lord. She was a woman of great courage and faith because of her immense belief in her Savior.
