Evalyn Lois Cross

April 11, 1917 — October 1, 2009

Evalyn Lois Cross, age 92, of La Grande, died October 1, 2009 at a local care facility. A funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande, on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. Committal and interment will follow at the Cove Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp.



Mrs. Cross was born on April 11, 1917, the daughter of George and Olive (Haak) Kirkpatrick in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. She moved to California in1938 and married Harry Cross in 1943. They lived in Lawndale, Banning and then San Diego. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She helped her husband in his construction and rental properties business and they also enjoyed traveling. He preceded her in death on December 14, 1974. She remained in San Diego and was a member of the arts and crafts group through the Unity Church until October 1981 when she moved to Portland to be near her son. While living in Portland she greeted and signed in people for Loaves and Fishes for ten years as a volunteer. Her hobbies included traveling and making needlepoint pictures and pillows which she gave to friends and family. She also made three hooked rugs for Timberline Lodge. In 1997 she moved to La Grande and she was active with the Senior Center and attended the 1st. Presbyterian Church.



Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Mindy Cross of Cove; daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and Monte Broaded of Indianapolis, Indiana; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters, Lillian Cody of Missouri and Ardis Moore of Iowa; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by sister, Bonnybel Graham and brothers, Leo and Roe Kirkpatrick.



Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Mrs. Cross to the Senior Center or the GRH Hospice in care of Daniels~Knopp.
