Eunice C. Gray

Eunice C. Gray passed away at a local care center on Wednesday, December 16th. A memorial service is being planned for Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in La Grande.

Eunice was born in Corvallis, Oregon on January 16, 1910 to David and Estella (Huffman) Scott. She grew up in Wallowa County, the third of nine children (one of which died in infancy). They were a close and happy family. She graduated from Joseph High School. On June 10, 1929 she married Lloyd Everette Gray in Baker, Oregon. The groom's sister, Jeanette and her husband Ray Hogan, were their witnesses. Lloyd and Eunice had three children, Doris Jean, barbara Joan and Donald Everette Gray. Eunice was a homemaker and her life centered around her family. The family enjoyed many camping trips on the South Fork of the Lostine River, hiking into the High Lakes and fishing.

Eunice was active in the Greenwood PTA when the children were growing up. A longtime member of a Great Decisions group. She shared teaching duties with her friend, Mary Jo Tomeraasen for Lay Acadamy at the United Methodist Church for 30 years. She was also a member of Caregivers.

Many holidays and special occasions were celebrated with the family at her home. She was a skilled seamstress and made many beautiful rugs and pillowtops on a rug frame she inherited from her mother. Grandchildren and nieces and nephews were dearly loved and could always count on finding fresh baked cookies in the cookie jar. In later years, Eunice took care of her husband, Lloyd, as his Parkinsons progressed for nearly 10 years. He passed away in 1992.

Others preceding Eunice include her daughter, Barbara Gray, sisters, Lena (Scott) Turnerand Ethel (Scott) Burgett, brothers, Virgil, Noel and Kenneth Scott, and granddaughter,Deena and her husband John Hale.

Survivors include her brothers, Harold Scott and wife, Katie, Ralph Scott; sister-in-law, Freida Scott and wife Jean; son, Don Gray and wife Brenda; daughter, Doris Tsiatsos and her husband Gregory; grandchildren, Sharon Crampton and husband Fred, Grant Tsiatsos, Heather (Gray) Walker, Millissa Gray and Jared Gray; great grandchildren, Rhonda Ross, Jason Crampton, Christopher Tsiatsos, Deena (Tsiatsos) Haun, Jonathan Tsiatsos, Ariel Sutton and Ashley Sutton; great great grandsons, Caden C. Ross and Augustus R. Haun plus many beloved nieces and nephews.
