Eula "Jonesey" Mae Jones

March 22, 1929 — May 7, 2009

Eula Mae "Jonesey" Jones, 80, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2009, at a local care facility.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 11:30 a.m., at Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth Street, La Grande, OR. A reception will follow at Eastern Oregon University in the Hoke Union Building, rooms 201 and 202.

Eula was born March 22, 1929 in Ponca City, OK to Harold C. and Ida M. (Lumry) Simmons.

Eula graduated from high school in Goldendale, WA, and graduated from Linfield College in McMinnville, OR where she earned her teaching degree. She began teaching in Waldport, OR, then accepted a teaching position at Elgin High School. In Elgin she met Glen D. Jones and in 1953 they were married. Two years later they moved to La Grande to raise their family. When Eula's children got older she worked part time at the Eastern Oregon State College Bookstore.

Among her many interests, she was involved with Girl Scouts of America, several sports, loved fishing and most importantly she loved and supported her family. "Grandma" will be especially remembered for the handpicked Hallmark ornaments she gave to her children and grandchildren over the years. Known and loved by many, Jonesey know no strangers.

Survivors include children, Cheryl Higgins, Karen Butler and her husband Bob, all of La Grande; Kevin Jones and his wife Sondra, of Eagle River, AK; grandchildren, Elece Fiocchi and her husband Robert, Brett Cornell, Jennifer Butler and her husband Peter Walker, Holly Wagner and her husband Chris, Emily and Rebecca Butler, Sarah and Cody Jones; great grandchildren, Maggie and Robert Fiocchi, Bryce Wagner; brother, Vern Simmons of Rancho Santa Fe, CA; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Glen.

Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Eula M. Jones to the Eastern Oregon University (EOU) Foundation or the Elgin Alumni Association Scholarship fund in c/o Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 4th Street, La Grande, OR 97850.
