EUGENE C. HARGETT

Eugene C. Hargett, age 81, of La Grande, died February 1, 2004 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. The family is planning a service in the spring. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Hargett was born on April 16, 1922, the son of Clayton Fordham and Edith May (English) Hargett in Pendleton, Oregon. After completing high school he attended Eastern Oregon University and later Oregon State University. On November 13, 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army in Santa Ana, California. He was a Camera Tech/Sergeant and was honorably discharged on November 6, 1945 in Portland. He returned to Union County to run the family farm until his retirement. He enjoyed photography and was a former member of the Eagles and the VFW.

Survivors include his sister, Carol Smith of Gresham; sisters-in-law, Darlena Hargett of La Grande and Helen Hargett of Toledo, Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Two brothers, Vern and Dale, preceded him in death.
