Etoye N. Hopkins

Etoye N. Hopkins, a longtime resident of Imbler, peacefully passed away on April 25, 2003 at the age of 88, in Beaverton, Oregon where she had reside for the last six years to be near her family.


A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Committal and interment will follow at the Summerville Cemetery.


Mrs. Hopkins was born on September 28, 1914, the daughter of Ollie and Mary (Pipkins) Nation in Elmore City, Oklahoma. On September 8, 1938 she married Dwight Hopkins in McLaud, Oklahoma. They made Imbler their home in 1945. She immediately made friends and was welcomed as an important part of the community. Etoye was a strong, positive influence during her life. She taught school for 35 years, most of it as a 1st grade teacher in Imbler. She loved teaching, gardening, painting, crocheting and living in the valley. Most of all, she loved her family and friends!


As an active member of the United Methodist Church of Elgin, Etoye worked with the Women's Group, the Missions and Vacation Bible School. She was also very active with the American Diabetes Association. She participated in fundraising efforts including "Daffodils for Diabetes", pop-tab collections and the "Walk for Diabetes." School and Community were very important as well. She loved supporting the Imbler Panthers basketball teams and local theater productions.


Etoye was reunited with her husband, Dwight Hopkins Sr. and her son, Dwight Hopkins Jr. in heaven. She will be greatly missed by her family - children, David & Jo Hopkins; grandchildren, Mary Hopkins, Cindy Hopkins, Bethany and Tony Christensen, Scott and Michelle Hopkins, Casey Hopkins, Joe Hopkins and Mike Hopkins; great grandchildren, T.J., Kyle, Kali, Danny, Haylee, Aislinn and baby Hopkins.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hopkins Scholarship Fund in care of any U.S. Bank.
