Ethel May Wiandt

February 25, 1911 — May 12, 2006

Ethel May Wiandt, age 95 of Cove and formerly of Phoenix, Arizona died, Friday, May 12, 2006 at her daughters home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2006 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Ethel May Wiandt was born on February 25, 1911, the daughter of Archie and Cornie (Gearhart) Bailey in Corry, Pennsylvania. Her mother died at an early age and Ethel was raised by her grandparents, Clara and James. It was while at the Christian Missionary Alliance in Nyack, New York that she met and later married Rev. Charles Harvey Wiandt on September 7, 1935 in Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania. Together the couple served small churches across the country and while Charles ministered, Ethel played the piano. During this time the couple raised 4 daughters and later settled in Arizona. It was after their time in Arizona that Ethel and Charles would later move to La Grande. Ethel enjoyed leading bible studies, playing music on the piano and the accordion, animals and truly enjoyed socializing with family and friends.


Survivors include her daughters, Phoebe Severson Simmons of Cove, Oregon, Lily Messenger of Richland, Washington and Lois Severson of Glendale, Arizona; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Her Husband, Rev. Charles Harvey Wiandt and a daughter, Verna Wiandt all preceded her in death.
