Ernest Allen Snapp

May 4, 1933 — June 13, 2005

Ernest Allen Snapp, age 72, of La Grande, and formerly of Etna, California, died Monday, June 13, 2005 at his home. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, June 20, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grande Ronde Community Church with Rev. Vernon Slippy officiating. Burial will be held on Monday, June 27, 2005 in Etna, California. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Ernest Snapp was born on May 4, 1933, the son of Charlie and Victorine (Whittaker) Snapp in Fort Jones, California. He attended and graduated from Chico State, California. He served in the Army. When he returned he taught High School Shop for a few years before moving to Alaska for a number of years. There he enjoyed fishing, friends and family. Ernest returned to Etna, California to care for and work with his dad, until his health caused him to take early retirement. He moved to La Grande, Oregon to be closer to children and grandchildren.

Ernest was a member of the Karok Native American Tribe of California. He was a life member of the North American Hunting Association and enjoyed hunting, Bingo and collecting things. He was a member of the Lions Club and he loved his family very much.

Survivors include his children, Linda Monge of Lakeview, Washington, Greg Snapp, Darrell Snapp, Devera Mitts of La Grande, Ernestine Ramberg of La Grande, James Snapp of Ketchikan, Alaska; step-children, Bernie Guthrie of Yakima, Washington, Sol Gutherie of Ketchikan, Alaska, Melvin Gutherie of Metlaketla, Alaska and Herbie Guthrie of Ketchikan, Alaska; twenty - five grandchildren ; one great grandchild; brothers, Arnold "Bud" Snapp, Charles Glen "Babe" Snapp and Joseph Edward Snapp, and sister, Helen Lincoln, all of Etna, California; and other relatives and friends.
