Elva Anita Doud

November 20, 1917 — July 24, 2008

Elva Anita (Lewis) Doud, age 90, of La Grande and formerly of Summerville, passed away July 24, 2008 after a long illness. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Summerville Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.

Mrs. Doud was born on November 20, 1917, the daughter of James and Mertie Jane (Robbs) Lewis. She was born and raised on a 72 acre farm in Summerville, which was homesteaded by her great grandfather, John L. Lewis in 1862. John came to the Grande Ronde Valley and was one of the founding fathers in Summerville, a valley pioneer. Elva was the last of the Lewis pioneering family. The farm was in the Lewis family for 110 years, being sold in 1972.
Elva attended and graduated from Imbler schools. She later married Donald John O'Brien and gave birth to Barbara Elva and Donald John. In 1941 she married Charles L. Doud. They had two daughters, Norma Jane and Deborah Ann. Elva and Charles were married 59 years before his passing in 2000. She was also preceded in death by on grandchild.

Elva loved crafts of any kind and flower gardening. In her younger years, she and Charles loved to dance and square-dance. She enjoyed fishing and huckleberry picking.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Elva (O'Brien) Kramer of Arlington, Washington; son, Donald John O'Brien of Imbler; daughter, Norma Jane (Doud) Scott of Pendleton; daughter, Deborah Ann Doud of Cove; ten grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
