Elmer Simon Yoder, 75, of Elgin, died peacefully May 24 at a local care center in La Grande following an extended illness.
No services are planned at this time. He had requested no flowers.
Elmer was born March 11, 1933, in Belleville, Pa., one of 11 children.
His life's work included cabinet installation and carpentry. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His love of the forest inspired him to plant and replenish native trees on his land.
Elmer served as a pastor of the Elgin and Cove Methodist churches for several years. Raised Amish, Elmer lived a simple life, carrying those values throughout.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; children, Miles and Jim Yoder of Lancaster, Pa., and Karen Hartz of Columbia, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and three brothers and five sisters.
