Elmer Speer, 90, of La Grande died April 25 at his home. A celebration of life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Loveland Funeral Chapel with Pastors Loyd Hoke and Raymond Bates of the Sonrise Free Methodist Church officiating. A reception will follow at the Seventh-day Adventist School in La Grande.
Mr. Speer was born June 28, 1914 to William and Susan Upchurch Speer in Flippin, Arkansas. He atended school in Arkansas and Missouri. He was a member of the Sonrise Free Methodist Church and enjoyed playing cards, dancing and going to church.
Survivors include his companion, Dottie Straight of La Grande; children, Wilma Smith of Clarendon, Arkansas, Elmer Mize of Batesburg, Arkansas and Lis Kowalski of Wrangle, Alaska; a step-daughter, Charlyn Miller of Bothell, Washington; 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
