Ellis Carlton Scott

March 18, 1914 — June 10, 2004

Ellis Carlton Scott, age 90 of La Grande died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at his home. Family and friends are invited to join the family of Ellis Carlton Scott to celebrate his life at Daniels Chapel of the Valley on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with Sally Wiens officiating. Committal and Interment will follow at the Hilgard Cemetery.

Ellis Carlton Scott was born on March 18, 1914, the son of John W. and Mabel Sara (Burns) Scott in Hilgard, Oregon. Ellis was a life long resident of La Grande except for a short time when he joined the war effort during World War II where he worked as an airplane mechanic and later became the foreman of the mechanics at the bomber base at Casper, Wyoming. On March 31, 1937 Ellis married his childhood sweetheart La Wanda Adlora Cantrell and together they raised three daughters. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Union County Road Crew for 35 years and was active in forming the union for Union County employees. Ellis was a life long member of the Knights of Pythias, a 32nd degree Mason and was a past Worshipful Master of the La Grande Masonic Lodge, he served in various positions of each. He enjoyed the mountains and spending time with his family and recently celebrated his 90 th birthday at his home of 54 years with nearby family and friends. He was the last of his family generation. La Wanda passed away in 1994.

Survivors include his daughters, Patricia Fager of Sitka, Alaska, Bonnie Wieden of Portland and Susan Strand of La Grande; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Six brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Those who wish may make contributions in lieu of flowers to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon 97850.
