Elizabeth Knight

Elizabeth "Libby" F. Knight, age 87 of La Grande, died, Wednesday, July 12, 2006. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. A private inurnment will be held at the Grandview Mausoleum.

Elizabeth F. Knight was born on January 4, 1919, the daughter of Bristol and Mary (Jones) Farrar in Detroit, Michigan. She was raised in the south and spent most of her early years in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Libby would later attend school at the University of Alabama. It was on blind date during World War II that she met Army officer Dean Knight, whom she later married on September 12, 1942 in Eugene, Oregon. Together the couple settled in La Grande, raised three children, and lived in the same home for 58 years. She was active in several organizations including the Beta Theta Sorority Chapter, AAUW book fair and the retired teacher's association. Elizabeth enjoyed going to the Elks Lodge with her husband and was an avid reader.


Survivors include her children and their spouses, Libby and Bill Smisko of Valencia, California, John Knight, of LaGrande, and David and Marilyn Knight of La Grande, Oregon; seven grandchildren, Jason Smisko, Kristi Knight, Kevin Knight, Joshua Smisko, Jason Pennington, Dustin Knight, and Echo Knight; three great-grandchildren, Katie Smisko, Kyle Smisko and Chase Pennington and other relatives and friends. Her parents and husband Dean Knight all preceded her in death.
