Eleanor Ruth Browne

Eleanor Ruth Browne, age 101, of La Grande, died June 17, 2003 at a local care facility.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Sarah Stanton officiating. Final interment will be held on July 26, 2003 in Nyssa, Oregon with former Eastern Oregon Bishop Rustin Kimsey officiating.

Mrs. Browne was born on November 23, 1901, the daughter of Albert and Lorena (Stephens) Baker in Tenoa, Illinois. The family later moved west and she graduated from the College of Idaho. In 1923 she married Wesley Browne in Boise, Idaho. They raised their family in Nyssa where she was involved with many civic affairs and the hospital auxiliary. Her husband preceded her in death in 1970 and when Grande Ronde Retirement
Residence opened she moved to La Grande where she became a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her children, Barbara Burnham of Portland and Jerry Browne of The Dalles; four grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister, Irene Nelson of Portland and other relatives and friends. Her son, Robert Browne and daughter, Martha Colter, preceded her in death.
