Eileen May Johnson

April 19, 1914 — May 7, 2005

Eileen May Johnson, who lived most of her life in the Grande Ronde Valley, died at the age of 91 on Saturday, May 7, 2005 at the Evergreen Rehabilitation Center. A service will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley with Pastor Frank Humber of the Summerville Baptist Church officiating. Committal and interment will follow at the Summerville Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:00 pm at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mrs. Johnson was born on April 19, 1914, the daughter of the late William and Mable (Johnston) Bull in Summerville. She graduated from La Grande High School and from Eastern Oregon Normal School. In her early years she tied fishing flies for income and also picked hops. On July 13, 1951 she married Bert Johnson in La Grande.

For many years she served as secretary to the Union County Health Department and was Registrar of Vital Statistics for Union County. She retired in 1979. She was a member of the Legal Secretaries Association, a Pinochle Club and the Red Hat Society. In their younger years she and husband, Bert, belonged to the La Grande Square Dance Club.

Survivors include her son, Gene Noland of La Grande; step-brother and his wife, Creston and Dovey Shaw of Alicel; nephew and his wife, Robert and Linda Kuchler of La Grande; nephew, Garth Bull of Pomeroy, Washington; nieces and their husbands, Marion and Bobby Stuckman of La Grande, Cresta and Rein DeLint of Alicel, Janet and Paul Rudd of La Grande; niece, Judy Bull of Pomeroy, Washington. She is also survived by seven grand nieces, Ruth McClure of La Grande, Johanna Carr of La Grande, Lynne Comisky of Summerville, Cynthia LaMiller of Baker City, Vickie Young of Kearns, Utah, one great nephew, Bryan Stuckman of La Grande; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert W. Johnson; a sister, Gail Kuchler; a brother, Garth Bull and a step-sister, Elaine Smith.
