Edwin "Glade" Janes

Edwin "Glade" Janes, age 76, of La Grande and formerly of Tillamook, died Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the Grande Ronde Hospital.


A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley with Pastor Raymond Bates of the SonRise Free Methodist Church officiating. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2003 at Sunset Heights Memorial Gardens in Tillamook, Oregon at 2:00 p.m.


Mr. Janes was born on October 16, 1926, the son of Edwin "Ross" and Ruth (Seslar) Janes in North Platte, Nebraska. He was educated in Nebraska and the family moved to Deer Island in the St. Helen's area. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Seattle Pacific University before enlisting in the United States Army. After his honorable medical discharge he returned to Oregon and broke horses and rodeoed. On December 15, 1946 he married Arline Naomi Schild in Tillamook. They operated a dairy farm in Tillamook for 40 years. In 1986 they moved to La Grande and they worked for his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Ivan Bingenheimer. She preceded him in death on March 22, 1999.


Mr. Janes was a member of the SonRise Free Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, made wooden pens and was an avid horseman.


Survivors include his son, Donald Janes of Salem; twin children, Ken Janes of Tigard and Kathy Bingenheimer of La Grande; son, Adolph Janes of Vancouver, Washington; grandchildren, Crystal Lauritsen of Salem, Adam Janes of Hermiston, Melanie Janes of Salem, Danielle Janes of Vancouver and Casey Janes of Vancouver; great grandchildren, Addison and Phoenix Janes; brother, Gerald Janes of Oregon City; sister, Lorraine Olsen of Gig Harbor, Washington; and other relatives and friends.
