Edward Raymond Robertson, age 93, of La Grande, died February 24, 2017 at his home. A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 2:00 pm. at the Island City Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.
Edward was born on November 11, 1923, the son of Charles 'Asa' and Robena (Briggs) Robertson in Starkey, Oregon. He attended school at Starkey until moving to La Grande to work two jobs, one of which was cooking at the Long Branch. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served four years. After his honorable discharge he moved to Spokane and attended Gonzaga University. On April 3, 1945 he married Irene Kuisti in Spokane. They moved to La Grande and he worked for the state highway department and a couple of service stations. He also worked for Meadow Gold and for Forest Gray selling freezers before going to work for Boise Cascade. He retired as a millwright. He volunteered on the Island City Fire Department for many years. He was a member of the VFW, Elks and Eagles. He was on a bowling league and a Tuesday morning coffee group at My Place in Island City for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and working in the orchard.
Survivors include his children, Jeff Robertson of Portland, Julie Gribling of La Grande and Judy Springer of Pasco, Washington; twelve grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Robert Robertson and his wife, Irene on March 21, 2016.
