Edna Magdalena Helena Kehr

July 3, 1944 — June 19, 2010

Edna Magdalena Helena Giesdeke Kehr, age 84, of La Grande, passed away June 19, 2010. A celebration of life will be on Saturday June 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, with graveside service at Grandview Cemetery following. A luncheon will follow at Faith Lutheran Church.

Edna was born July 3, 1925 in St. James, Minnesota to Arthur and Amanda (Quindel) Gieseke and was raised on a farm. Snhe met the love of her life, Ewald A. Kehr through church activities and later married on April 16, 1944 in St. James. They continued farming. In 1952 they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon where they raised their family. Edna worked closely with her husband in his contracting business. They moved to La Grande in 1976. After retirement she enjoyed their travels as snowbirds during the winter months.

Edna loved baking, gardening, flowers, hunting and fishing. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church. During her life she was very devoted to her church and involved in many church activities. Her family and friends were priorities and she unselfishly gave and cared for others, not expecting or wanting anything for herself. She was always grateful for freshly picked dandelions from her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and even attempted to play baseball with grandchildren at 80 years old.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years and by an infant son, David. Survivors include sister, Verdell Meyers of Florida; brother, Robert Gieseke of St. James, Minnesota; daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Jerry Brown of La Grande and Barbara and Gale Seavert of La Grande; son and his wife, Daniel and Maura Kehr of La Grande. She is also survived by granddaughters, Nancy (Brown) Broyles, Julie (Brown) Blake, Lori (Carreiro) Brinton and Desirae Carreiro; grandsons, Kerry Cole, Kelly Carreiro, Ryan Kehr and Jason Kehr. She also has 19 great grandchildren.
