Edna Earle Flanery

Edna Earle Flanery, age 95, of La Grande, died September 18, 2012 at a local care facility. A graveside service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 24, 2012 at the Summerville Cemetery. Edna was born on July 23, 1917, the daughter of Lewis Fredrick Ericksonand Clara Hehman in Kuna, Idaho. Her father died when she was a baby and the family moved to Elgin where she was raised and educated. On September 12, 1934 she married Ed Stowe and they ranched in Elgin. They had one child, Karrel, and the marriage later ended in divorce after they raised their daughter. She worked as a clerk for various places over the years, including, Ann Johnsons, the Sand & Sage Room in the Sacajawea Hotel and Wards. She was the first woman to work on the assembly line at Terry Trailers. On June 27, 1960 she married Robert C. Flanery in Reno, Nevada. He worked at the La Grande Wards Store and when it closed he was transferred to a Portland store until his retirement. While they were in Portland she managed a mini market. After Bob's retirement they returned to their home in La Grande. She was born for fun and loved going to their cabin at Starkey, gambling at Wild Horse and playing Keno. She enjoyed dancing, traveling in their motor home, fishing, hunting and picking mushrooms. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years.

Survivors include her son-in-law, Wayne Johnson of Wallowa; grandchildren, Kerry and Darlene Johnson of Wallowa, Karin and Chris Nix of Hico, Texas, Kristi Johnson of Umatilla and Karl and Guinevere Johnson of Bend; great grandchildren, Sterling and Sage Nix of Hico, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by husband, Bob, on May 27, 2004, daughter, Karrel Johnson in 2006 and all of her siblings.
