Edith Roberta Weston, 92, of La Grande, died Jan. 5 at a local care center in La Grande. A memorial service will be announced later.
Edith was born Aug. 19, 1918, to Lawrence Franklin and Myra (Taverner) Green at Douglas, N.D. She spent her childhood in North Dakota and Wisconsin, and lived in Stockton and South Lake Tahoe, Calif., Bridgeport, Hermiston, Scio and Jefferson, before finally settling in
La Grande. She graduated from high school in Minot, N.D., and attended business college in Minot before her marriage to John Milton Weston on March 1, 1947.
Edith was employed in the motor vehicles department in Minot. She served as secretary for the school district in Stockton and was a bank teller in South Lake Tahoe and La Grande. She was a postmaster for Bridgeport and was a bookkeeper in Stanfield and La Grande.
She collected stamps and rocks and enjoyed growing flowers. She enjoyed doing needlepoint and watching birds and wildlife. She was an avid reader. She watched football on TV with her husband and went camping and fishing with the family.
Edith was a member of the Methodist Church and was an active participant in its activities, including the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Home Extension Group and community potluck dinner groups.
Surviving are her daughter and spouse, Kathy and Eric Arnoldus of La Grande; siblings, Frank Green of Lake Worth, Fla., and Gertrude Kennedy of Lehi, Utah; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ron and Diane Weston of Lebanon; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 20 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John who died Sept. 30, 2007; parents; and siblings, Lenora Welliver, Dorothy Fisher and Paul Green.
