Edith Lavon Rogers, age 85 of La Grande, died Monday, January 30, 2006 at her home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 3, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Island City. Interment will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande.
Edith Lavon Rogers was born on May 5, 1920, the daughter of Theodore and Leona (Ashmed) Miller in Union, Oregon. Edith married Harold Rogers on December 8, 1946 in Reno, Nevada. The couple operated an antique store in La Grande for at time. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Edith enjoyed collecting antiques, flowers, dancing, traveling which included trips to the beach with her family. Her family was always very important to her.
Survivors include her children, Willard Swiger of Bremerton, Washington, Ronnie Swiger of Milton-Freewater, Bev Moore of Colorado, Pat Lovan of La Grande and Myrna Martinez of Fort Myers, Florida; twenty one grandchildren; sixty great-grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; sisters, Lillie Waldrop of Mississippi, Eva Kephart of Pallock Pines, California and Myrna Clayton of Reno, Nevada; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death are, husband Harold Rogers, sons Michael Rogers, Carl Swiger; brothers, Earl Miller, Dick Miller and Roy Miller, sisters Amy Stewart and Mae Simonis and two great-grandchildren.
