Edith M. Bodyfelt

March 30, 1913 — May 22, 2004

Edith M. Bodyfelt 91, of La Grande and formerly of Union, died May 22 nd at a local care facility. By her wishes, she was cremated and there will be a graveside service at the Tillamook Odd Fellows Cemetery in Tillamook, Oregon on June 5, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Ron Carter of the Nestucca Valley Presbyterian Church of Pacific City, Oregon officiating. Daniels Chapel of the Valley is in charge of the arrangements.

Edith was born on March 30, 1913, to Homer and Nora Marian Cheney, in New Plymouth, Idaho. The family moved to Union when she was a small child. She attended school in Union, where she was a accomplished athlete in both basketball and baseball, and graduated from Union High School in 1931.

She married Guy E. Watts at her parent's home in Union, September 1931. They moved to Pacific City, Oregon in 1959, where they owned a restaurant until Guy's illness forced them to sell. He passed away in March 1965. Edith worked as a cook at local restaurants, Boy Scout camp, and at Cloverdale elementary school for several years. She later worked at Lincoln City Hospital as head dietician until her retirement. She married Walter Bodyfelt in November 1967. They were married 25 years before Walter passed away in December 1992. She enjoyed gardening, travel, her family, and loved being a caregiver for her own children, and all the neighborhood children.

Survivors include children, Marla Williams of Beaverton, Oregon, Melba Wagner of Imbler, Oregon, Bob Watts of Tucson, Arizona and Deanna Robinson of Newberg, Oregon; stepchildren Floyd Bodyfelt of Corvallis, Oregon, Bob Bodyfelt, Richard Bodyfelt both of Portland, Oregon, George Bodyfelt of Cloverdale, Oregon, and Larry Bodyfelt of Rock Springs, Wyoming. She has 33 grandchildren, 35, great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A son, Douglas G. Watts; two sisters; three brothers and a grandson all died earlier.
