Eddie Darrel Garoutte, age 78, formerly of La Grande passed away peacefully, Saturday April 11, 2009 at Marquis Nursing Home in Boise, Idaho. A celebration of life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.
Eddie was born April 16, 1930 in Portland, Oregon to Darrel and Blossom Garoutte. He enjoyed his childhood and had many fond memories of his young life while growing up in Cottage Grove, Oregon. In 1949, upon graduation from Union High School in Cottage Grove Eddie went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad for a brief time, but returned to what he loved, the timber industry. He continued to work in the timber industry most of his life. In 1992 he retired from Boise Cascade in La Grande.
Eddie loved hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling and won many awards in Archery. Playing golf was Eddie's passion and he was a member of the La Grande Country Club. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family. He will always be remembered as a loving father and a true friend to many.
Eddie was preceded in death by his father, mother and wife, Billie (Hogan) Garoutte. Eddie is survived by his two brothers, Larry Garoutte of Austin, Texas and Greg Garoutte of Meridian, Idaho; three sons, Chris Garoutte of Fort Washington, Maryland, Darrel Garoutte of Meridian, Idaho and Todd Garoutte of Caldwell, Idaho; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
