Earl Wayne Powers

September 11, 1933 — April 28, 2010

Earl Wayne Powers, 76, of Elgin, died April 25 at a local care center. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Loveland Funeral Chapel in La Grande.

Earl was born Sept. 11, 1933, to Earl and Phyllis Hatch Powers in Oneida, N.Y.

Earl served in the Army from 1950 to 1953. He served in the Korean War. He received several medals of honor: Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars, United Nations Service Medal with two overseas bars, National Defense Service Ribbon and a Good Conduct Medal.

He enjoyed watching baseball, football and basketball and spending time with his family. He worked for Boise Cascade as an edger operator.

Earl is survived by his wife, Margaret Eoff Powers of Elgin; his children, Eldon Powers of Astoria, Gary Powers of Umatilla, Steven Powers of Naches, Wash., and Dawn Leonard of Elgin; step-children, Ellen Craig of Elgin, Robert McCann of Ontario, Angel Snedeker of Newark, Ohio, and Julie Archie of Elgin. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Keith Eoff of Elgin; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, LaVora Hickman Powers; and his son, Bruce.
