Dr. Gerald M. Hill, age 86, of La Grande, died Wednesday, Novmeber 30, 2005 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Contributions can be made in his memory to the Blue Mountain Humane Association in Care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon 97850.
Dr. Hill was born on April 16, 1919, the son of George C. and Hattie Valetta (McNett) Hill in Pendleton, Oregon. The family moved to La Grande when he was six years old. He served honorably with the United States Army during both WWII & the Korean War. From 1946 until 1994 he had a successful dental practice in La Grande. He married Santa Versitain in Vale, Oregon in 1948. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, and the Lions Club. He loved Eastern Oregon, his family, being a dentist, fishing and tinkering on cars.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Santa Hill of La Grande; daughter Lisa Hill of La Grande; son Gerald Hill, Jr of Seattle, Washington; and son-in-law, Shawn Konecky of La Grande, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, George and both of his parents.
