Douglas Wayne Kinsley, age 63, of Union, died June 16, 2016 at the Grande Rhone Hospital. At his request there will be no public services. Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to the Blue Mountain Humane Association in care of Daniels-Knopp Funeral. Cremation & Life Celebration Center.
Doug was born on November 17, 1952 to Ernest Wayne and Doris Marie (Heimbucher) Kinsley in Portland, Oregon where he grew up. After graduating from Sunset High School, he enlisted in the US Army at age 17, and served for two years before joining the Oregon National Guard. When he returned to the Portland area he began working with General Telephone. While in Portland he was selected for the Oregon National Guard shooting team, a competitive team that he excelled at. In 1979 he moved to Union, and while with the HQ 3-116 Cavalry unit of the Oregon National Guard he became unit commander, and eventually retired from the Guard at the rank of Captain. He worked for Verizon until he retired in 2007. On July 6, 1991 he married Diane Hutchinson in Union. Doug was a member of the NRA, and enjoyed hunting, gardening, cooking, ranching, garage sales, and especially being with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Kinsley of Union; children, Shonda Hampton of La Grande, Jessica Howard of Union and Paul Phifer of Newberg; bothers, Alan Wayne Kinsley of Milwaukie and Curtis D. Kinsley of Portland; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
