Dorothy Jean Mccurdy

November 4, 1904 — November 24, 2002

Dorothy Jane McCurdy, age 98, of Summerville, died Sunday, November 24, 2002 at the Grande Ronde Hospital.

The family invites friends to an Remembrance Open House between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at Tamarack Springs Ranch, 62024 Tamarack Springs Lane, Summerville.


Mrs. McCurdy was born on November 4, 1904, the daughter of William Gardner and Annie O'Neal (Ferguson) Ehrhardt in Sacramento County, California. Her grandfather, John Ehrhardt, was a famous pioneer in Elk Grove, California. She graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1923. She studied Journalism at night school for a year. On September 5, 1939 she married Oren McCurdy in Sacramento, California. She worked as a title searcher for a title company, as a commercial reporter for Dunn and Bradstreet and as a accountant for the State of California. She retired in 1955 and in 1961 they moved to Summerville where she and her husband owned and operated the Tamarack Springs Ranch and the Summerville Store and Post Office for a short time. He preceded her in death in January of 1970.


Mrs. McCurdy enjoyed her work and serving private dinners for weddings and banquets at the family ranch.


Survivors include her daughters & sons-in-law, Carolyn (Howard) and Jerry Wright of Summerville and Edwina and Kenneth Botzau of Imbler; grandchildren, John Howard of Imbler, Paul Howard of La Grande, Greg Howard of La Grande, Susan Vogler of Pendleton, Holly Whitten of Pendleton, Kent Coppinger of Summerville, John Mola of Crescent City, California, Kate Botzau-Guya of Kamuela, Hawaii; great grandchildren, Dwight Howard, Derek Howard, Christa Wise, Amica Vogler, Calvin Howard, Cody Wise, Talia Vogler, Nicole Howard, Shasta Vogler, Wyatt Whitten. Justin Coppinger,Tara Riggle; great great grandchildren, Trayse Riggle, Mercedes Riggle; sisters, Violet Ehrhardt of Santa Cruz, California and Mildred Blake of Sacramento, California; and other relatives and friends. A brother, Wilbur Ehrhardt preceded her in death.


The family requests that contributions, in lieu of flowers, be made to the Charity of one's choice in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon 97850
