Dorothy May Evans

May 7, 1922 — December 6, 2008

Dorothy May Evans, 86, of Joseph, died Dec. 6 at Wallowa Valley Care Center.

Graveside services were held Dec. 10 at Island City Cemetery with Tom Collins, minister of the Enterprise Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, officiating.

Dorothy was born May 7, 1922, to Walter and Anna Price in La Grande. In La Grande, she worked as a waitress at the Fountain Cafe and later accepted a job with American Optical.

In 1965, she moved to Joseph to be near her daughter, Nancy, and went to work for her son-in-law, Alfred Zollman, at Playmor Lanes and Cafe. When the business was sold in 1979, she found employment at the Wallowa Valley Care Center where she worked for seven years up to retirement.

Dorothy loved living right next door to her family and played a huge role in the care of her three grandchildren, Cordy, Monty and Cresta.

Among her favorite things were autumn leaves, snow, the beauty of Mount Joseph and the many pets she had over the years.

Dorothy was a member of the Enterprise congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include her brother, Walter Price of Springfield; daughter, Nancy and her husband Vern Baker of Joseph; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and five nieces and eight nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Alice Cone in Redding, Calif., and Bertha Nodine of La Grande.
