August 12, 1920 — October 5, 2004

Dorothy May Craig, 84 of Summerville, died Tuesday, October 05, 2004 at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Summerville Cemetery Chapel with Bill Miller of Valley Fellowship officiating. There will be a dinner following at the Odd Fellows hall in Summerville. Friends may call Friday from 4 until 6 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Dorothy was born to Willie and Hallie (Bottles) Sanderson on August 12, 1920 in Epsie, Montana. She had three brothers, Kenneth, Donald and Billy, and two sisters, Evelyn and Wanda.

Dorothy's family homesteaded near Summerville where she attended Dry Creek Elementary and Imbler High Schools. She married Thomas Chester Craig on February 11, 1939 in Puyallup, Washington. She had two sons, Dallas and Stephen. She spent her entire life ranching in Summerville. At the recent Oregon State Fair she received the Century Farm distinction and was very proud that four generations currently live on the family farm.

She loved the outdoors and spending time with her family, friends and animals. Anyone who knew Dorothy knew how she loved picnics and potlucks for good food and great conversation.

Dorothy enjoyed being involved in her community as a member of the Elgin Eastern Star and the Summerville Rebekah Lodge of which she was a past Noble Grand. She and Tom also enjoyed being members of the Indian Valley Promenaders square-dance club in the past.

She was a kind, generous and loving wife, mother and grandmother, who will be sorely missed by all who knew her wonderful sense of humor and loyalty to all she held dear.

She is survived by her husband Tom of Summerville; children and their spouses, Dallas and Bonnie Craig of Pleasant Hill, Steve and Carol Craig of Summerville; six grandchildren, David and Ellen Craig, Cami and Devin Stark, Travis Craig, Carrie and Jeramie Warden, Ryan Craig, and Alisha Craig; six great grandchildren, Jaken and Noble, Wyatt, Chase and Justin and Benjamin and a soon to be great granddaughter; a sister, Wanda Pointer of La Grande, brother, Billy Sanderson of Elgin; other relatives and many friends

Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Summerville Cemetery in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th St., La Grande, OR 97850.
