Dorothy Edna Botting

Dorothy Edna Botting, age 81, a lifetime resident of La Grande, died March 3, 2009 at a local care facility. A funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande. Committal and interment will follow at the Island City Cemetery.

Mrs. Botting was born on November 14, 1927, the daughter of Virgil Allen and Katherine (Owsley) Stine in La Grande. She went to La Grande schools with the class of 1945. On December 31, 1944 she married Basil "Bud" Botting in La Grande. She worked for years at H & H Grocery across from Riveria Elementary School where she was fondly known as the ‘Candy Lady'. When her children were young she was involved with the school PTA. Her husband was very active with the La Grande Elks Lodge and she spent much of her time by his side helping out. She loved to garden, especially her tulips. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking. She collected frog things and took care of the people around her. Her time with family and grandkids was precious to her.

Survivors include her husband, Bud Botting; daughter and her husband, Debbie and Jack McConnell; son and his wife, Jim and Denise Botting, all of La Grande; son-in-law, Alan Miller of Boise; brothers and their wives, Charles and Annie Stine of Hermiston and Kermit and Linda Stine of Portland; grandchildren, Kim and Tom Adams of La Grande, Kristin and Lee Crowson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Tobin and Cody Goodan of La Grande, Jake and Tanya McConnell of La Grande, Michael Botting of Umatilla and Ben and Jenn Botting of Anchorage, Alaska; great grandchildren, Lars and Riley Crowson, Hunter Adams, Ellie and Addy Jo Goodan and Ryan Botting; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Sherry Miller.
