Donald Richard Tuttle

November 25, 1920 — December 15, 2008

Donald Richard Tuttle, 88, of La Grande, died Dec. 15 at his home. At his request, there will be no services.

Don was born Nov. 25, 1920, to George E. and Ada M. (Jasper) Tuttle in Methuen, Mass. He grew up enjoying the outdoors, hunting, fishing and hiking.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army immediately after Pearl Harbor, serving until 1946. He re-enlisted and served during the Korean Conflict for a total of 12 years of service.

He was employed by the state of Oregon until he established his own business, Accutax. He provided tax and accounting services from 1962 to 1984. He served as treasurer on the Union County Fair Board for four years.

Don was musically inclined and played piano professionally. He knew hundreds of songs that he played by ear. He once met and played with Liberace in Las Vegas.

He enjoyed playing cribbage with the local cribbage club and his many friends. Crossword puzzles were also his passion. He was active in both endeavors until his eyesight failed him.

Those who knew Don say he was a clever poet with a puckish sense of humor. He loved a good debate and was well versed in local and national events. He was thankful to his friend Jerry who read the papers to him regularly.

He is survived by his brother, Bud; and niece, Joyce.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grande Ronde Home Health/Hospice and the American Cancer Society.
