Donald Glenn Rose, age 64, of Elgin and formerly of La Grande, died October 19, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital in Walla Walla, Washington. A memorial service will be planned in the spring of 2018. Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to the Elgin EMT's in care of Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.
Donald was born on March 14, 1953 in Pendleton, Oregon, the son of Robert Lavon and Joan (Bugarsky) Rose. He attended school in Imbler and Baker where he graduated from Baker High School in 1971. He was in the United States Navy for a short time before going to work for the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked for 27 years, retiring as a Conductor. In 1974 he married Teresa Blank and they had two children together, Jim and Danielle, before divorcing in 1992. In 1993 he married Juanita Hickerson and they had one child together, Mariah. He enjoyed woodworking and made bowls, walking canes, cribbage boards, letter openers and back scratchers. He loved playing bumper pool and would play for the Rose Cup award. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and huckleberry picking.
Survivors include his mother, Joan Rose of La Grande; wife, Juanita Rose of Emmett, Idaho; children, Jim Tom Rose of Athol, Idaho, Danielle Rose of Pendleton, Mariah Furman of La Grande , Amanda Matott of Emmett, Idaho, and Joshua Matott of La Grande; brother, Raymond Rose of La Grande; sister Kimberly Rose of La Grande; twelve grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father.
