Donald L. Parr, age 91 of Elgin, died Monday, February 7, 2005 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. At his request there will be no public services held. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
Donald L. Parr was born December 31, 1913, the son of Milton and Carrie (German) Parr in Newcastle, Nebraska. On October 29, 1938 Donald married Betty Schuder in Newcastle and together the couple moved to Sioux City, Iowa where Donald worked for the city as a bus and street car driver. Later they moved to Portland where Donald worked selling insurance before settling in Elgin in April of 1986. He was one of the oldest members in Oregon of A.A. and had 55 years of sobriety. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting, traveling, children and most of all helping others.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Parr of Elgin, Oregon; children and their spouses, Gary and Linda Parr of Enterprise, Oregon, Jo Anne and Ron Pyle of Blackstone, Virginia, and Dennis and Colleen Parr of Elgin, Oregon; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Two sisters, Bernice McKinley, Phyllis Dougherty and one brother, Leslie Parr all preceded him in death.
